Karol Oakley,
Master Pastellist, Pastel Society of Australia Inc.
Karol is a professional Australian Artist living in South east Queensland. This artist is known for a strong representation style of painting. Water and the effect of light and colour on this surface is a favourite subject. She also paints landscapes, portraits and still life with as much attention to detail, whilst retaining that painterly realist style that Karol’s work is recognised for. It is the medium of pastel that remains her first love and addiction and the medium from which her many awards have been won.

A sought after tutor, Karol travels frequently teaching pastel painting to art groups through out the state and overseas with painting tours to the Greek Islands and Norfolk Island. A multi award winning artist, Karol has paintings held in public and private collections in Australia and over seas. She has been part of twelve exhibitions over the last twenty years. Cherie Reynolds
I was born in Werribee, Victoria and moved to Bundaberg when I was ten. Later as a teenager I would spend weekends sketching animals in pencil and charcoal but for the last 24years I have devoted my life to my husband and my three children. About eighteen months ago, through a lot of encouragement from my mother, I discovered pastels and instantly fell in love. My mother gave me a book by Lesley Harrison on animals and away I went. Through this book I have taught myself and have enjoyed the journey each drawing I create takes me. Each drawing is done on velour board which I believe gives my animals a more lifelike texture. Although I love doing landscapes and want to try my hand at portraits, wildlife and pet portraits will remain my first true passion. I am now looking forward to learning more, creating more and fulfilling a dream I've always had. Along with my husband and two of my children, I now live in Edens Landing, Brisbane.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I find nothing more relaxing and exhilarating than to be in front of my easel with my trays of pastels sprawled out displaying their booty of colour. To perfectly reproduce an image that is burning away in my conscious, is a burning passion and obsession. My work environment presents me daily with new and exciting colours, papers, techniques, tools and most of all, the contact with other artists, which I relish.
I have found pastel has the capacity to be applied and used in the same fluid way that oil paint has been associated with for millenium, and it is my life-long ambition to raise the profile of this age old medium. I want to bring it right under the noses of judges and critics and say “What about this for pastel??”
